Advair

GlaxoSmithKline’s Advair is used to treat asthma by shrinking the swelling in the airways and relaxing and opening air passages in the lungs.

In November 2005, the FDA issued a public health advisory about potentially fatal side effects from two GlaxoSmithKline asthma drugs. The agency asked the maker of the drugs, Advair Diskus and Severent Diskus, to add warnings to their labels that these medications "may increase the chance of severe asthma episodes, and death when those episodes occur."

With more than $4 billion in sales, Advair was GlaxoSmithKline’s largest-selling product in the first nine months of 2005.
